Questions for the Committee?
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do we need to expand or build?
Since 2010 our average attendance on Sunday mornings has increased from 235 to 378 in 2016. At the same time our seasonal attendance has swelled to close to 600 each Sunday. To accomodate this growth we have added a thrid service during “high season.” Currently our maximum capacity is 300 in our sancutary due to fire codes and space.
In addtion our current fellowship, kitchen, classroom, meeting room, and office space is either at capacity or doesn’t adequately meet our needs at this point and we are actively exploring how to improve those areas.
Finally, the Fort Myers area along with Gateway are some of the fastest growing areas in the U.S. right now. Over the next 5 years we are anticipating more and more people moving to our area and we need to be ready to welcome those who might choose to call GTLC their church home.
Why don't we build a new sanctuary in the property to the north?
We explored the idea of a new building, however the cost of a new facility is far greater than the cost of renovating and adding to our current buildings. This property will most likely provide space for additional parking and a new entrance and exit to the north.
Will the congregation have to vote to move forward with the expansion?
Yes, any purchase of land or building project must be presented to and approved by the congregation. Per our constitution it must be approved by at least 60% of the voting members at an offically called congregational meeting.
